A couple of years ago I started a conversation with my friend Wendy by saying, “OK, can I bitch about something?” She sort of sighed, slumped a bit, and said, “Sure.”
Wendy is a good friend and is prepared to put up with my negativity, but I don’t necessarily expect you to do so, so feel free to close the window or go look at cute pictures of puppies. Here is a list of things that have annoyed me today:
– I’m still sick and not feeling myself
– When I went out to teach, I turned my computer off. That is, I went through the process of turning the computer off. When I came back two and a half hours later it was still on. I clicked on the screen once, THEN IT TURNED OFF. But of course I needed to do stuff with it, so I turned it back on. Some energy saving.
– Because I was sick and thus not moving much, I only lost 1 pound this week.
– I dusted the piano today, but somehow or other kicked up some dog hairs, which were all over the keyboard when my first student came today
– Because I’m still sick everything tastes awful.
– After I finished teaching, I stopped off at the liquor store and got some beer. When I came out of the store, I realized I hadn’t brought my bike basket (it’s detachable) and had to carry the beer somehow under my arm while walking the bike home.
– Speaking of biking, I was planning on taking a bike trip to Waterloo to visit my sister, since I have a fair amount of time off for March Break. My plan was to take the commuter train to Brampton (a suburb about 40 km northwest of here) and pick up the trail from there. Oh, only the train doesn’t run in the morning – only during afternoon rush – it’s a bus the rest of the time, and you can’t take your bike on the bus. I could alternately take a different train west to Burlington (about 50 km), but then I would have had to ride directly north up a busy minor highway that runs more or less directly up the Niagara Escarpment. Also, if I managed to get to Waterloo, I’d have to bike back as well, as there’s no train with baggage service from Waterloo to Toronto, and Greyhound is not a bike-friendly carrier. The situation is pure balls.
OK, enough bitching. I wrote a poem today but feel iffy about it – I’ll edit it and maybe post it tomorrow.
