She was gone.  The window was open, and she was gone.  I looked stupidly outside at the tree in bloom and the blue sky behind it.  She was gone.
It wasn’t unexpected, of course.  She had been getting restless for a while.  I wasn’t even sad, particularly, just deeply, humbly, unbelievably, sure.  Final things, you know, [...]

Aha!

I “found” about 2000 words that I hadn’t included in my word count total. Serves me right for writing on two different computers and making each day a separate file. So I’m over 42000 words now. Getting to 50000 by Sunday? Piece of cake.
* Here is a massive installment – yesterday [...]

So does Shostakovitch. I listened to some symphonies today when I was writing, and it came much more easily than it did yesterday. Weird.
* It’s all coming together now – I will shortly return to my usual aimless blogging style, but bear with me until Sunday*
Interlude: A detective story
It was a cold night, [...]

It’s like I’m gouging the words out with a pickaxe. Time for Nyquil and bed, I think.
*It’s starting to ramp up for the climax. Hopefully tomorrow morning I’ll get to the really fun part.*
I could see at once that the kid needed watching – the little dark-haired one, the one I’d watched go [...]

I have about 10,000 words to go before the climax…I now know how I’m going to draw the whole thing together and make it a devastating ending. It’s tempting to just skip to the end now, but I should make sure it’s fully fleshed out.

“Well, you know best, I guess,” Justin said. He sounded unconvinced. “They’re not, like Christian vampires or something, are they?”
“You are [...]

Finally.  5003 words today!
And I’ve taken some Nyquil, so I’m out.
*Only 30000 to go!*
“That,” I said coldly, “Is the worst story ever,”
“What?” Justin said as he put down his manuscript and looked at me, hurt. “But it’s about you!”
“I know,” I said. “And it’s the stupidest possible reading of the situation.”
“But it’s the [...]

Instead of 1500 words in an hour, I did 2769 in an hour and a half!
* Warning: this is really different from the rest of the book so far. If you haven’t read anything else of it yet, I suggest you click on the “Nanowrimo08″ category and start at the beginning. Or at [...]

I will be posting as I go today.  Next goal: 1500 more words by 5:00.
*I don’t know if there’s enough plot in this thing for 50,000 words, but I’m sure as hell going to find out*
Sweet little thing. She was a sweet little thing. Underneath the bravado, she was just a little girl [...]
