I’ve been watching Richard Dawkins’ Root of all Evil? (in case you’re wondering, the answer is “Religion”). His basic documentary style is to find the craziest person possible and get them to yell at him. There’s this guy he interviews in Jerusalem, a New York Jew turned Israeli settler turned radical Muslim, who is beyond belief. Also noteworthy is Ted Haggard, who manages to come off as a real bastard while advising Dawkins not to be so arrogant. (Yep. THAT Ted Haggard.) He also screams “YOU CALLED MY CHILDREN MONKEYS!” and threatens to have Dawkins arrested for trespassing.
Anyway. Dawkins is the Borat of atheism – it’s all about getting other people to make fools of themselves, and risking death and dismemberment in the process.
You know, I agree with pretty much everything Dawkins says, but he always comes off as kind of a dick. I think he just gets people to yell at him so he’ll feel better about himself.
I don’t think he’s trying to be a dick. He’s just passionate about the damage that religion is doing.
