I had a blog when I was a teenager. At least, I had an Angelfire website (I think it was Angelfire) where I expressed my hatred for Hanson, my gleeful enjoyment of conspiracy theories, and my enthusiasm for Soviet kitsch. (Well, it was 1997 and that’s what the Internet was about.) The Wayback Machine tells me it has copies of everything that was ever on the Internet, ever, so I guess it must be in there…but fortunately I can’t remember the URL and I don’t think my name is on it anywhere, so I’m safe for now.
Why, after 11 years of blissful Internet silence, would I start again? After all the cautionary tales – the Violet Blue scandal, that thing with the girl from Gawker, and, you know, I can’t think of anyone else whose life was ruined by a blog, but I’m sure they’re all over the place – well, all I can say is everybody is doing it and while I’m always cautious about jumping on bandwagons, I tend to hop aboard in the end.
I want this to be sort of a multi-purpose blog, a combination of creative writing, personal writing (that sounds like a sort of tampon-commercial euphemism, but you know what I mean) about things I like and so on, and random reactions to things I read on other blogs or, you know, run across in real life. Out there. Away from a computer.
So before I step away from my computer and interact with a much more outdated form of technology (i.e., a book), let me leave you with something I like. Its title is “Scintillator” and it’s spam but I don’t care, I think it’s kind of beautiful.
